The Doug and Lucy Bowers Hospice House

Families in Fayette, Raleigh, Summers and Wyoming counties have turned to Hospice of Southern West Virginia for support, pain control and comfort for their loved ones for over 25 years.  Although home care will always be our primary focus, the need for an inpatient facility to assist families was a great one for our area.

The Doug and Lucy Bowers Hospice House opened in November 2006.  The Bowers Hospice House has 12 private suites, all with French doors and private baths.  The rooms are set in three wings, each containing a living room area with kitchenette to provide a warm, home-like atmosphere for our patients and their guests.  A large meeting room is available for trainings and is also available for use by other non-profit agencies and groups in our area who would like to schedule a meeting there.  We have a full service dietary department, small conference room and a chapel for family gatherings or services.  Sleeping accommodations in every room for family members, 24-hour visiting hours and on-site parking are all part of our comforting environment.

Designated Capital Gift Opportunities
The cost of building the Bowers Hospice House reached nearly $3 million.  We owe a debt of gratitude to the southern  West Virginia community for so many generous donations.  Although many of our naming opportunities were taken, there are still several options available for families who may choose to honor or memorialize a friend or family member.  In so choosing, these families are also honoring generations of Hospice participants to come, helping us to continue our legacy of "A Special Kind of Caring...'

Windchimes - An official dedication of Lassie's Windchime Garden, featuring an original sculpture by international artist and blacksmith Jeff Fetty, will happen  Spring/Summer 2010. Stay tuned for updates! Those who have already purchased windchimes in memory or in honor of someone will have their chimes placed as part of the new sculpture. For anyone wishing to purchase a windchime in memory of someone, you may do so for a $150 donation to Hospice of Southern WV.

Mary Roberts' Circle of Hope Memorial Walkway Stones- We are still taking orders for and placing engraved stones in our front-facing memorial walkway. The walkway stones are $100 each for 'name only' stones or $200 for stones to be engraved with a name and sentiment of your choice in honor or in memory of someone. Call 255-6404 for more information or to order your stone.
